The Community Justice Coalition is inviting you to the event FREED celebrating the agreement to give young people in NSW detention centres access to computers in their cells.
This celebratory Event will be held on the 15th December 2023 from 6:00-9:00 pm in Trades Hall, 377 Sussex Street, Sydney with a 6:30 pm launch.
The NSW Minister for Youth Justice Jihad Dib has agreed to provide youth detainees with computer tablets by the end of the financial year.
This initiative will enable youth detainees to communicate with their family members, have access to education, rehabilitation and counselling services in their cells. Research indicates that it will have a significant effect on reducing the recidivism rate and making the detention centres safer for staff as well as detainees. See the media release below for more information.
The Minister, Shadow Minister and other relevant authorities have been invited for the occasion.
The event will include a program showcasing the services that youth justice organisations can provide for youth detainees on laptops/tablets through whitelisted services.
