2011 STATE ELECTION PUBLIC FORUM

NSW Criminal Justice and Prison Systems

The following parliamentarians have agreed on behalf of their parties to respond to the Community Justice Coalition’s NSW State Election Submission and Questionnaire and discuss the issues raised (download)

* Hon. John Hatzistergos MLC, Attorney General for NSW, ALP

* Mr Greg Smith MLA, Shadow Attorney General for NSW, Liberal Party

* Mr David Shoebridge MLC, NSW Greens Party

The Submission calls for major reforms, stresses rehabilitation and raises issues such as the malfunction of the bail system, the over representation of indigenous persons in prisons, the children of prisoners, mentally ill prisoners, and the need for transparency  in the administration of the prison system. The Submission has been sent to all the political parties, MPs and Parliamentary candidates.
